Introducing Active by Nature's 2021 Season

Introducing Active by Nature's 2021 Season

Walking, Nordic Walking & Hiking in the Canadian Rockies

Active by Nature is thrilled to be offering more things to do when visiting Canmore and Kananaskis this spring, summer and fall.  Here is a rundown of what is new as well as a few returning favourites:

NEW HIKES FOR 2021:

Mountain Vistas Hike

  • Join us for a 5.5 hour hike that has a fantastic scenery reward for the effort you put into it.
  • Located just 20 minutes from Canmore, this Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park hike is a personal favourite, yet to be discovered by the masses.
  • The trail meanders through a forest alongside a mountain stream before ascending steadily but gently up a forest road which brings you out into a stunning alpine meadow with spectacular views.
  • We take a lunch or snack break at a lookout with panoramic views… thus, the name “Mountain Vistas”.
  • 11 km long with 400 metres of elevation gain.

The Ha Ling Half

  • Have you wondered what it might be like to hike up Ha Ling, but you are not sure if this hike is for you?
  • This guided hike leads you a little over half way up the well-defined designated hiking trail that finishes as the “saddle” of Ha Ling.
  • The Ha Ling Half goes to a spectacular lookout with views of the Spray Valley, Goat Creek Valley, Bow Valley and East End of Rundle.
  • Allow 3 - 3.5 hours for this hike, which is approximately 3.5 km with 400 metres of elevation gain.
  • Up for more of a challenge, then Active by Nature also offers a longer hike to the saddle of Ha Ling, at the end of the established hiking trail.  We do NOT scramble up to the summit.

Burstall Pass

  • This is a full day hike that will cover 15 km with 470 metres of elevation gain in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park.
  • We will start out on a logging road, traverse gravel flats with a braided stream, ascend into a stunning alpine meadow and finally top out at Burstall Pass, with spectacular views into Banff National Park that will take your breath away.
  • If timed right, the alpine flowers are spectacular.

RETURNING FAVOURITES:

Nordic WALK & FLOAT

Starting June 22nd, we will be partnering with Canmore Raft Tours to offer the 2hr 15 min walk and float on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with 5 time slots to choose from throughout the day.  This is the perfect pairing of an active and invigorating Nordic walk with a relaxing, super scenic float down the Bow River.  The Nordic walking portion will have most people learning a valuable new activity they are bound to love and practise wherever and whenever they go walking or hiking.  The float will offer opportunities to see wildlife as well as seeing and photographing the Town's iconic mountains from the perspective of the river.

The Three Sisters Pathway Walk or Nordic Walk

This tour will take people from the edge of Canmore’s downtown, past beautiful homes, past the historic #2 mine site, along the Bow River and through the woods.
The tour will end at the Market Bistro in Three Sisters Mountain Village where we will enjoy a drink before taking ROAM transit back to our starting point.

We look forward to seeing you on the pathways and trails this season!
