It is not every day that I get a personal email from a Maasai warrior who leads safari tours in Africa. But indeed I did on April 9, 2022. At first, I had some doubt about its validity, as there are just so many unsolicited email scams that arrive in my inbox these days. But Pasangei Lasakai started out by stating he had come across my website and was impressed with the service I offer. Nice!!! He then went on to state that his company, Warrior Adventures specializes in walking/hiking trekking the Ngorongoro Highlands in Tanzania. "Rugged. Wild. Diverse. Possibly one of the most extraordinary hikes in the world and one of the finest blends of landscapes, wildlife and culture in Tanzania." Now he really had my attention. He also mentioned he had a Canadian partner, Cindy, who spent her winters in Tanzania and the rest of the year in.... Calgary. How convenient!
Ever since I can remember, going on an African safari has been at the top of my travel wish list. I have never realized that dream and the clock is ticking. I have also long been considering a follow up to the group tour I assembled in 2018 to Nordic walk the Amalfi Coast with Exodus Travels. Could this be the long awaited follow up? On that trip, we walked the "Path of the Gods." Pasa was offering to walk us to the very foot of Mt. OlDoinyo Lengai, known to the Maasai as the "Mountain of God" and one of the most active volcanoes in the world. He also mentioned the wildlife that we were likely to see: lions, zebras, giraffes, buffalo, Thomson gazelles, hippos, wildebeest, elephants, flamingos and if we were really lucky, perhaps rhinos, cheetah and leopard,. Oh boy!!!
After doing as much research as I could on the internet about Warrior Adventures, and also looking at African Safaris and Tanzania, my next step was to have a Zoom chat with Cindy. On the arranged day, we had a delightful conversation that lasted for about 90 minutes. Since then, Pasa has continued to tantalize me with various itineraries and I had another Zoom chat with a reference I had asked for. Michelle, a travel agent in Georgia, USA and I spoke for at least an hour. She had nothing but wonderful things to say about her Warrior Adventures, Tanzania safari experience in July of 2021. Indeed, this well-travelled woman concluded by saying it was one of the best vacations she had ever had.
I have asked Pasa and Cindy to do a Zoom presentation for us in mid-June to showcase their company and the tours they offer and mention some possible add on like Serengeti hot air ballooning, hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro or popping over for a few days to Zanzibar. There would be some time set aside for Q & A. Then, I will create a mailing list of people who are interested in joining me on a Nordic walking tour, likely to be scheduled in 2024.
Pasa and Cindy are willing to work with any number of groups to customize a tour and make it truly the trip of a lifetime! Mark the date in your calendars for their exciting Zoom presentation.
The Zoom presentation has now been scheduled for June 15th at 7:00 pm, Mountain Time. If you cannot make the live presentation, a link to the recorded session will be sent to you.
