Active by Nature Experiences During the COVID-19 Era

Active by Nature Experiences During the COVID-19 Era

I am delighted to inform you that Active by Nature has re-opened as of June 1st for Nordic walking, walking and hiking experiences offered in Canmore and Kananaskis. To ensure your health and safety please note the following: Nordic walking poles are sanitized between each use. You are most welcome to bring and use your own walking poles. A third option is to purchase your own set of Urban Poles, Canada’s leading brand, at 20% off when booking your tour. Offer expires October 31st.

Quick-Start Nordic walking tours (the most popular experience) start from the lobby of the crown jewel of Canmore, the Malcolm Hotel. The Malcolm has a hands free entrance to the lobby and hands free entrances to the nearby washrooms. The hotel has a rigorous cleaning routine, hand sanitizer readily available and they physical distancing measures in place. It is an excellent place to consider staying for your Canmore visit, or enjoying a meal in the Stirling Lounge or grabbing a bite at the cafe. Quick-Start Nordic walking session details can be found here.

This spring and summer, group sizes will be a minimum of two persons and a maximum of six. I am always happy to lead a private tour. Please contact me for details. I will be maintaining physical distancing within our group at all times. I will be using trails and pathways that allow for physical distancing from other trail users. This means masks are not required but if you feel comfortable wearing one, perfect, and if you like, I can too. If you are sick with cold-like symptoms such as cough, fever, runny nose, sore throat or shortness of breath, please contact me right away for a full refund (more than 24 hours notice) or a full credit (24 hours or less notice).

Guided hikes will be by appointment, for private groups of between one and six individuals. I am looking forward to seeing you this summer and fall, sharing with you the beautiful outdoor scenery of Canmore & Kananaskis Country and also sharing my “passion for poling” and walking in Canmore. In the mean time, stay safe, healthy and active, by nature!

Sincerely, Mandy Johnson Owner/Operator, Active by Nature

What to wear & bring (Spring, Summer, Fall):

  1. Wear comfy casual clothes.
  2. Bring a warm extra layer & rain jacket, just in case.
  3. Running shoes are fine while light trail or hiking shoes provide even more support and are ideal.
  4. Please no flip-flops or sandals.
  5. Leave purses at home. A small backpack is a great bring-along.
  6. Don't forget your water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, insect repellent and your camera.

What to wear & bring (Winter):

  1. Wear a long sleeve t-shirt/thermal underwear top plus 1 or 2 layers (i.e.: light fleece top, heavier fleece top) & a wind/waterproof shell. Heavy winter parkas and snow pants are usually too warm.

  4. Bring water, gloves/mitts, a hat/headband, scarf/buff/neck warmer, tissues/handkerchief, sunglasses and don't forget your camera!

Your Health & Physical Activity Readiness:

We ask guests who are experiencing cold symptoms and symptoms of COVID-19 to stay home and practice self-isolation under the direction of the appropriate governing body. For almost everyone, the benefits of physical activity far outweigh any risks. For some individuals, special advice from a Qualified Exercise or health care provider is advisable before becoming more active. This questionnaire is intended for all ages – to help move you along the path to becoming more physically active.

Please review this Questionnaire if you have concerns about your health or fitness level for participating in Nordic walking.

Full refunds are given if a cancellation is received 24 hours or more prior to the clinic or tour date. No refunds are given with less than 24 hours notice. Clinics/tours go rain or shine. If the weather is extreme, then it may be cancelled with a full refund given.
